One of Australia’s best red wines at its price point, Gramps Shiraz punches well above its weight for its full-bodied complexity and delicious, fruit loaded palate. The wine is quintessentially Australian – there is loads of black currant, jubes, ripe raspberry and mocha flavours at play. The texture is slippery and the tannins are dusty but not overwhelming, while the new and old French and American oak plays a subtle supporting role to the fruit. The wine doesn’t stray down the blockbuster route so it’s a perfect, easy drink for the summer months.
Gramps is named after the five generations of family who founded the internationally renowned Orlando Wines. Gramps is a Barossa-centric producer that makes wines in the tradition of the fruit driven, full flavoured wines that the region is famous for. The Gramps Shiraz 2006 has been heavily praised and was awarded
Commercial Bargain of the Year in The Big Red Wine Book 2009/10 (Campbell Mattison, Gary Walsh).
