MOET: Founded in 1743, Moet is perhaps the world’s most recognized Champagne brand. It is certainly one of the largest, and creates a broad range of excellent wines from prized vineyards and growers in the premier vineyard sites of Champagne. The Moet company owns more than 2500 acres of land in Champagne, allowing careful selection of fruit for its finished wines. The company first gained international notoriety when it became Napoleon’s official Champagne. Today the company still holds a royal contract to supply Queen Elizabeth II of England.
The wine itself is a full flavoured Champagne that champions richer texture, complexity and fruit sweetness. The palate is moussey and shows layers of baked apples, biscuit and lashings of grapefruit acidity. Moet is popular for its fruitier appeal yet still retains a crisp finish and some mineral notes. It is very well balanced and persistent. Many people will not realize that the word Moet is actually pronounced mow-ett and not mow-ee or mow-ay.
